Not checking your Search Engine Rankings is like entering as race and not knowing if you came first or last. How can you know if your search engine optimisation (SEO) is working, and that people can find your website, unless you check your rankings?
Clearly although we all aspire to be on Page One of Google we cannot all be there. It is especially difficult to be there for generic terms, however someone has to be on page one and someone has to be number one; and it can be you if you follow the rules. check my search engine ranking
Remember most people have little knowledge of the rules and you are therefore advantaged.
Your rankings can be checked in several ways. For example the Google toolbar, which you can download with no charge, contains a PageRank button that can rate any webpage you visit.
Alternatively Google relevant keywords or keyword phrases and see where you rank against your competitors.
Rankings are dynamic and change all the time. You might be on Page One today but if your competitors improve their pages you might slip back down the rankings. Should you not be as high up the rankings as you would like then you need to further optimize your pages.
Consider your page title, page descriptor, keywords, headlines, content, keyword density, incoming links etc and you will frequently be able to improve your page ranking for virtually any web page. Each one of these provide you with an opportunity to improve your search engine rankings; improve them all and you can be well on the way to improving your search engine rankings considerably.
